Tony Heideman is an award-winning retired history professor with a passion for helping people understand the past in its historical context. He has taught history to thousands of graduates and undergraduates at the university, seminary, U.S. Naval Academy, and community college over a twenty-three year teaching career. He has lived and travelled overseas and has studied many cultures in Europe, Asia and Africa.
After visiting Hawaii for decades as a tourist, he and his wife finally took the plunge and moved to Maui in 2021, where they now live full-time. Tony volunteers as a docent with the Maui Historical Society in Wailuku, is a retired Marine Corps officer, works part-time in home health care , and enriches people’s time on Maui by conducting historical tours. (He is also writing a novel!)
You’ll find Tony’s teaching to be balanced, engaging, and friendly. You’ll learn a lot of history and gain a better understanding and appreciation of the peoples, places and events which make Maui special.
