Why Choose Us?

An Historical Focus

Yes, other tours give you information about the island and some interesting tidbits of history, but this tour will take you to places where you can learn and understand what happened in Maui’s past. You will see a lot of the island, and have fun, but the point of the tour is for you to gain a much deeper historical understanding about Maui and Hawai’i.

Educationally Rewarding Private Tour

You have an historian in the car, with lots of experience teaching people of from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, and experience. The tour follows a route, but it is not a “canned speech”, so feel free to ask questions. If he can’t provide an adequate answer, Tony will follow-up with you in an email to answer your question.

Flexibility

Tony’s Tropical Tours is a small operation (i.e., Tony is the owner!) so you get personalized and individual treatment. Let Tony know of your interests, and he will try to accommodate you. Time permitting, if you want to spend more time someplace, we can even extend the length of the tour, on a pro-rated basis.

``Teaching the past to the present to create a better future.``

Tony’s teaching approach is to understand people who lived before us in the context of their times, and not evaluate or judge them based upon today’s standards, values, behaviors, laws, or norms, or what we feel “should” have happened. If we can learn from the successes and failures of our predecessors, we will be less disposed to repeat their mistakes. As we strive to replicate their successes, we become better equipped to live lives that are more meaningful, rewarding, and helpful to others. This is one way a study of history can benefit us.
